Butterfree looks like a vaguely anthropomorphic butterfly with a purple body. Unlike true insects, it has only two body segments and four light blue legs. The upper pair of legs resembles small hands of three fingers, while the lower pair resembles long feet without digits. Butterfree has two black antennae, a light blue snout with two fangs underneath and large compound red eyes. Its two pairs of veined wings are white with black details. The oval scales of the lower wings of female Butterfree are black, but white on males.
